The January transfer window is typically a time of significant rumour and possible major moves. A number of notable players find themselves connected to transfers away from their present teams. We examine a selection of the key figures who could be changing clubs in January.

A. Semenyo

Although the Black Stars' inability to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, this has left the forward available, indications are a major transfer is close. This Bournemouth attacker has a contract with a sizeable buy-out clause applicable for a brief window in early January. Latest reports point to Manchester City are now the frontrunners for his signature. It is understood the London club is open to a transfer for the right valuation, thought to be in the region of forty million pounds. The Cherries are currently at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also showing an inquiry.

R. Neves

The Portuguese midfielder could be poised for a return to the Premier League following a period in Saudi Arabia. Still just twenty-eight, and with his contract ending in the summer of 2026, he is a possible bargain. Teams like Liverpool and Manchester United are linked with the former Wolves man. Additionally, there are suggestions from Spanish media that he is prepared to accept a pay cut for a switch to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This veteran Germany goalkeeper finds himself as third-choice at Barça under the manager Hansi Flick. After lost his place and undergone an operation, a winter departure looks highly likely. Villa were once mentioned as a possible suitor, but that move now appears off. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly showing interest in the keeper.

Ivan Toney

The prolific England centre-forward has kept finding the net frequently in the Middle East. Coming back to the Premier League could enhance his dwindling hopes of being in the national squad. But, securing a deal presents major hurdles. His current club are reluctant to part with him, and his reported enormous weekly wages render any move complicated. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton are all mentioned as admirers.

Harvey Elliott

Although starring and winning player of the tournament at the Under-21 European Championship in the summer, this young midfielder has found it tough for game time on loan at Villa. Because of FIFA regulations about playing for multiple teams in a campaign, a return to Liverpool before next season seems to be the only available solution.

Kenan Yildiz

The exciting Turkish forward has been in fine form for Juventus this season. As his existing deal running down, a host of Premier League clubs – including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are monitoring the developments. Juventus are desperate to tie down the youngster to a new long-term agreement but are in a battle to retain one of the continent's brightest prospects.

K. Smit

The highly-touted Dutch midfielder has drawn parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. Following starring at the Under-19 European Championship, he has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar side. This 19-year-old is widely tipped to complete a major transfer this month. Newcastle United reportedly are leading the chase, but could face stiff competition from Real Madrid for a deal valued at around £22 million.
